Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses (BPCG) is a community garden in the centre of Lambeth’s Brockwell Park. Our beautiful, large site includes an orchard, a series of demonstration gardens, a walled herb garden and two commercial-sized greenhouses.
We help people grow through learning, and learn through growing. We run a drop in garden volunteering scheme, school visits, family events, courses and workshops. At BPCG, people learn about conserving the environment and wildlife, to appreciate nature and to understand organic gardening and food growing – and all in a very friendly community spirit. On Monday to Wednesday, and on some Saturdays, we hold booked nature based education and play sessions for children.
We are open to the public and for drop-in garden volunteering four days a week, Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm (GMT) and to 5pm (BST). Our garden drawing group also meets on Thursday afternoons from 1.30pm. Throughout the year, we also welcome the assistance of Corporate Volunteer groups.
For those interested in helping on our kids’ and families’ nature based education programme Monday to Wednesday and on some Saturdays, we also always welcome voluntary assistance here too.
We have many events held throughout the year including our musical Gigs@theGreenhouses, pizza and bread baking days and community feasts.
Thanks to our large greenhouses, we are able to propagate a large number of plants which are available for sale along with our freshly harvested produce and our honey for most of the year. This raises valuable funds for the charity.
Our charity is currently run by a board of trustees and our part time staff (Community Gardener, Education Officer, Education Assistant, and a Director) and a dedicated band of over 200 volunteers.
We are very grateful to our funders who enable us to do our work and to plan for the future.
