Better Fridays

BETTER FRIDAYS at Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses.

Stuck indoors? Feeling a bit low? Want to get out and enjoy nature?  Like to grow some vegetables, harvest and cook them?

From March until October, you can come and try a spot of gentle gardening with Cathy and Cat at Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses on Friday mornings and enjoy a home cooked lunch.  Feel free to bring along a friend or relative with you for support.

Cat Stevens, BPCG community gardener is a qualified psychotherapist and Cathy Graham, BPCG education assistant, has worked in outside learning and play for over 5 years.

Says Cathy:  “Cat and I wanted to do our Better Fridays project because we have both experienced first hand the benefits of gardening. There have been times in both of our lives when we have felt a bit low but then just doing a bit of pottering around outside, doing the odd bit of weeding, picking a bit of salad or fruit (and then eating it!) has just made both of us feel so much better. The nice thing about doing this in the Brockwell Community Greenhouses is that you are with other people too – whether it’s a friend you bring with you, or with us.  Equally well, if you feel like being alone, our gardens are big enough and peaceful enough to scoot off on your own for a bit.”

‘Better Friday’ Introductory sessions are on Friday 9th March or Friday 16th March from 10.30am when you can come visit and meet Cat and Cathy.  Friday March 23rd is the first session which starts at 10.30 am finishing off with a home cooked Lunch 12.30pm.  This will be the timings for all the sessions on Friday mornings which will go on until Friday 19th October which is expected to be the last session.

BPCG is a large community garden in the middle of Brockwell Park in Herne Hill. It’s open 7 days a week for volunteering, visiting and children’s activities.  Better Friday morning sessions are for people who have been experiencing mental ill-health along with their friends and supporters. They are free thanks to support from Project Smith and the London Community Foundation.
