This week in the gardens, we’ll again be taking advantage of the dry weather to push on with painting the Canopy both on Thursday and on Friday morning.
We will also load our fresh horse dung and litter into our composting bays for manure, and complete the prune and removal of the Elder in Lower Garden. There’s tidying and clearing to be done in both main greenhouses along with some nursery propagation work to develop stock for next year.
We have grown some really cool Daikon – or some call it Mooli – which is now for sale in the shop. You can see nice pics of them here on Instagram. along with Kohl Rabi and Patty Pan squash. Get ideas on how to ferment Daikon from Jelena’s free fermentation workshop on Saturday 19th September at 1pm as part of London Harvest (remote) Festival.
Whilst the Patty Pan squash can be harvested if bigger than 10cm in diameter, the other Autumn squash need to be left til October. They are ready to harvest when the stem that attaches them to the plant stops being green and goes hard and brown.
We need some help getting our web site up to date. We’d love to hear from you if you have experience in creating WordPress themes in Avada. We don’t need any technical work or php development – this is just a theming task. If you can help please contact Chris on admin@brockwellgreenhouses.
Our Chipper-Shredder needs a service from FR Jones in Sydenham. They don’t pick up or service on site so we need to ask for a favour of someone able to pick it up in their van and deliver it to Sydenham for us for its service – and then pick it up. The chipper-shredder is 5 foot high. Please reply to this email if you can help us out here.
The City of London Almshouses in Brixton – a sheltered housing estate for elderly people – wish to design, create and maintain a 35 ft square garden for the residents. They would like help in restoring 4 raised beds, lifting some areas of turf to be replaced with wood chips, and creating a wild flower area. There is currently no funding for the project but Tony (who is leading this project) and the residents would support you in applying for funding or would welcome some volunteering of gardening time for this rewarding project. If interested, please telephone Tony on 0207 733 1811 or 07985 334 917 or email email@example.com
We have been donated a small child’s purple bike which is available to anyone who would like to make a donation to the greenhouses in return for it. It’s in very good condition, almost new. You can see it here. Offers to kate on firstname.lastname@example.org.
