Last year’s series was seriously impacted by the pandemic but we were able to maintain our ornamental planting. This year we are again running a series of our long-standing workshop that has so far designed and planted our Hot! Border in the walled garden, our ‘Oudolf’ border in front of the deck and the Sensory Border in the Herb Garden and our Gate borders. This course is designed to build confidence in a range of gardening jobs and to think about how to style your garden overall. The group maintains most of the ornamental planting around the garden.

Over the next 10 months, on the first Sunday of the month, we will be judiciously creating a ‘wild’ area around the arbour in the lower garden and we will be transforming the kitchen garden around the seating circle into an ornamental garden. You’ll be part of the planning process for both these areas. (In case you haven’t noticed, slugs and snails make this area very difficult to grow food in especially the salads one might hope for in a kitchen garden). There is also quite a lot of editing to do in all the other borders. By the end of the series, you’ll have worked on at least four borders of different styles and have the confidence to tackle a makeover in your own garden.

This is a chance to follow gardening through it’s full year cycle. If you sign up for this workshop we expect that you will be able to attend the majority of the sessions.

The course takes place on the first Sunday morning per month from 10.00 until 1.00pm every month from October until July 2022. There is a £5 booking fee to deter speculative bookings. Once you have booked there are no further charges for the year. (In case of extreme hardship please contact We are increasing the number of spaces to 14 this year as the drop-out numbers have been high. For the moment, please bring a mask in case we are assembled in the greenhouse.

There are also two other  different workshops in our series
