Natural Dye Plant Walk
June 23 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm£16 – £20
Come take a walk to discover the numerous flowers, leaves, roots, and barks growing in Brockwell Park and the Greenhouse Dye garden, that can be used to create natural dyes and colour. We’ll start off in the BPCG dye garden and then go for a wander in Brockwell Park to identify a number of trees or plants that give long-lasting wonderful colours on animal fibres like wool and silk.
There will be a short session at the end demonstrating materials that have been harvested previously and/or purchased and the lovely colours that can be achieved on wool and silk.
This session would be a good introduction for people who are curious about dyeing with natural materials and/or for more experienced dyers who want to learn more about what native/local plants are suitable for dyeing.
Note that this session does not involve any hands-on dyeing nor any gathering of material.
There are 2 free tickets on this workshop for BPCG volunteers. Please contact Kate on email@example.com if you would like one of these!
This walk is led by Mette Lindahl-Wise, an indie dyer based in Herne Hill. She draws on the British approach to dyeing with natural materials as well as on the Scandinavian tradition which can be traced back to the Viking ages.
