This is a workshop for anyone who is interested in drawing plants, and who would like to take a closer look at their stems, leaves, flowers and seeds, whilst enjoying their dynamic and changing nature throughout the seasons.
Plants contain geometrical patterns, in various ways like leaf joins spiralling up stems, or spiralling seed patterns in the seed heads of sunflowers. Making a drawing will take you on a journey of observation and discovery!
The workshop will begin by wetting your visual appetite and stretching your visual imagination through looking at a wide variety of styles of plant illustrations.
There are various elements we will look at including:
- lines and mark making
- compositions and how the plant is placed on or partly off the page
- plant silhouettes, and the negative space surrounding plants
- recurring patterns
Then you can choose a plant and make a drawing of it. Cat will be there to support your drawing process, make suggestions, and encourage you to be playful and explore.
Some material will be provide, but feel free to bring your own.
