Rachel Sermanni and Courtney Hartmann Gig
19 October 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
We are delighted to welcome this Nest Collective gig at the Greenhouses, tonight with the wonderful Rachel Sermanni and Courtney Hartman
The folk-noir-balladeer Rachel Sermanni is from Carrbridge, a village in the Highlands of Scotland. Now 24, Rachel has toured since the age of 18: in Europe, Canada, Australia and even India. She has released two studio albums, one live album (recorded in the Yukon, only 100 miles south of the Arctic Circle) and three EPs. Rachel’s sophomore studio album, ‘Tied To The Moon’, was released in July 2015 and exhibits her creative growth as she delves into a deeper, more rhythmic flavour of sonic poetry.
All Rachel Sermanni’s records have been released on Middle of Nowhere Recordings, a label she helped create with Robert Hicks, who lives in beautiful Ullapool in the North West. MONrecordings is now an established label with a growing roster of artists.
‘Minimal, Murky, Magnificent’ – MOJO Mag
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Courtney Hartman started playing guitar at the young age of eight, after having already spent several years on the fiddle and mandolin. Her early years were spent steeped in American Roots music, and today she has fused a diverse range of influences from Norman Blake to Bill Frisell, creating music that acknowledges and pays homage to her roots, while pushing beyond its defined boundaries.
Courtney was recently nominated by the Americana Music Association for 2017 Instrumentalist of the Year, following the release of her solo project ‘Nothing We Say’. Her songs are flush with intimate ruminations on her life as a travelling musician and a deep curiosity about the world around her. The luminous EP delivers on the promise always apparent in her work as a guitarist and songwriter for Della Mae, the Grammy-nominated string band, along with her collaborations with Bryan Sutton, Jim Lauderdale, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell, among others.
Acoustic Guitar Magazine lauds Courtney as a “distinctive guitar stylist… and a songwriter that delights and disturbs.”
