DESCRIPTION:Maddie Morris is a bold and socially conscious folk artist who uses traditional music to explore contemporary issues. Winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award\, they have been described by Jim Moray as “leading the next generation of socially conscious songwriters.” Their work explores personal narratives and political storytelling\, blending English folk traditions with their lived experience as a trans\, autistic person. \nRooted in the oral tradition\, Maddie’s music seeks to preserve\, challenge\, and expand folk heritage by writing historically excluded voices into the canon. Recent projects include a residency at Ferens Art Gallery\, and commissions from Unlimited\, Rural Arts\, and the English Folk Dance and Song Society. \nPassionately political yet gently understated\, this is music that deftly treads the path between art and activism. \n\n****  “An insightful listen… Thrilling\, glorious and inspiring.” – Songlines  \n*****  “Morris is a powerhouse performer with a rich voice and a gentle way with a guitar. Just bring it along on your phone and/or we have a list of all attendees. \nWe put on our Gigs at the Greenhouses to let people hear brilliant music\, enjoy our lovely gardens and to raise money so that the community can benefit from BPCG seven days a week. \nGetting to us \nBPCG is in the middle of Brockwell Park\, between the tennis courts and the walled gardens. Follow the signs. \nExit from the Park should be via the Park’s Lido Gates on Dulwich Road. Please leave in groups and be sure to have a torch or use your phone torches. Walk left out of the greenhouses\, left then right through the tennis courts and down the hill to the lido. Click here to see a map of the route \nIf you are driving to the gig\, we recommend parking your car on Dulwich Road or near Dulwich Road. \nFood & Drink \nDelicious home-made hot food\, botanical cocktails\, local craft beer and organic wine will be on sale. \nBook your food with your ticket to avoid disappointment. \nFood will be vegetarian\, but unfortunately we cannot cater for any other dietary requirements. \nAbout the venue \nThe gig will take place inside the barn.
