SUMMARY:Willow Weaving Workshop: Make Your Own Sustainable Plant Supports
DESCRIPTION:Come along and enjoy a day of creativity\, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving. In this workshop we will be focussing on how to make attractive and sustainable supports for your plants\, using willow and traditional willow weaving techniques. \nIn this 5 hour workshop you will be shown how to make three different plant supports. A traditional circular support\, good for plants like dahlias and peonies\, stopping them from flopping over. For taller plants like sweet peas\, you can make a willow obelisk and for very small plants\, or as a form of plant protection\, you can make a miniature willow dome. \nWillow is a very versatile weaving material from which you can create decorative and useful items such as plant supports\, garden sculptures\, ‘live’ fences\, firewood baskets and shopping baskets. You will learn all about the various types of willow you can weave with and the differences between living willow and dried willow. As well as becoming familiar with traditional tools such as the bodkin and rapping iron. \nYou will make one or more plant support which you can take home at the end of the day\, plus the knowledge to make many more! \nAll material and tools provided. \nINFORMATION \nTicket prices\n£65 full price / £50 concessions \nRunning time\n5 hour workshop plus an hour break for lunch \nIf viewing on a phone\, scroll to the bottom of the page to book.  \n“As a complete beginner I loved learning about willow weaving in BPCG’s new barn. It was a small friendly group and Cat the tutor was great. We each made a basket and either finished them on the day or took home the materials and knowledge to do so. I was very proud of my slightly wonky one!” \nThis workshop will be lead by Cat Stevens \nCat studied sculpture at Edinburgh Art College. She is a professional gardener\, art psychotherapist\, potter and stained glass maker.

SUMMARY:Gig at the Greenhouses: Alice Boyd - Shifting Soundscapes
DESCRIPTION:Alice Boyd presents a live performance inspired by her BBC Radio 4 documentary ‘Shifting Soundscapes’\, where she revisited locations legendary field recordist Martyn Stewart\, dubbed the David Attenborough of nature sounds\, recorded in the 70s. Blending voice\, synths and live looping with field recordings gathered across the UK\, the show explores how our environments are changing – and what we hear when we take the time to listen. \nMoving between song and soundscape\, the performance weaves together disappearing and returning sonic textures into an immersive\, atmospheric set. \nFor the second half of the evening\, Alice will be joined by Daisy Jean Russell and Jacob Norris\, long-time collaborators from her live shows and recordings. This trio set leans into a more acoustic\, folk-inspired sound\, with rich harmonies and field recordings gently woven through the songs. \nAbout Alice Boyd \nAlice Boyd is a South London-based musician\, sound artist and audio producer whose work explores our relationship with the natural world through song\, field recording and immersive listening. \nBlending folk-inspired harmonies with ambient electronics and environmental sound\, she creates work that reveals the hidden textures of everyday places – from endangered birdsong and underwater life to urban spaces and sounds lost to time. \nHer work spans music\, spatial audio installations and broadcast\, with features on BBC Radio 3\, 4 and 6 Music\, and presentations at venues including the Barbican Conservatory\, Kings Place\, Kew’s Wakehurst and the Eden Project\, where she was artist-in-residence. \nShe is the creator of the BBC Radio 4 documentary Shifting Soundscapes and produces Found Sounds for Ffern’s podcast As the Season Turns\, with other recent collaborations including the RSPB\, EarthPercent\, Knepp Rewilding and TOAST. In 2025-26\, she supported Yann Tiersen on his European tour\, with a performance combining voice\, synths\, live looping and field recordings. \nFind out more about Alice’s work at www.aliceboyd.info and @aliceboydmusic on Instagram\, YouTube and other social media platforms. \nPhoto © Caitlin Warren \nINFORMATION \nTicket Price: \n£15 standard price\n£12 concessions \nFood:\n£8 per person for a hot vegetarian meal \nTimings: \n6.30pm – Gates open\n7pm – Solo set\n7.30pm – Break\n8pm – Trio set\n8.40pm – Finish \nIf viewing on a phone\, scroll to the bottom of the page to book \nTo save paper\, do not print your ticket.
