DESCRIPTION:Get into the festive spirit and make your very own Christmas wreath!  \nWe’ll provide a base and a selection of natural materials\, including berries\, seed heads\, cones and evergreen foliage\, and you’re free to design your wreath however you like. There’s no set pattern to follow\, so you can experiment with different combinations and weave in whatever catches your eye. You’re welcome to bring along your own foraged finds or favourite bits and pieces to mix in too. Once you start looking\, it’s amazing what you can spot that will look great on a wreath! \nYou won’t be taught step by step\, but our friendly volunteers are on hand throughout if you’d like a tip\, an idea or a helping hand. And don’t worry if you don’t think of yourself as arty or crafty\, it really doesn’t matter\, and the wreaths always look stunning! \nWhy not add a botanical cocktail or a glass of mulled wine to your session? SUMMARY:Fermentation Workshop: Festive Kimchi and Condiments
DESCRIPTION:Take your Christmas meal to the next level by learning how to create your own delicious seasonal kimchi and Christmas condiments!  \nJoin Melanie for a festive fermentation workshop using seasonal ingredients where you’ll become confident in lacto-fermentation techniques at this hands-on class. We will make a christmas-inspired kimchi and learn different recipes and approaches in kimchi making. From preserving the garden at an early age in Canada to scouting out all the flavours of pickled things while living in Japan thus cementing a love of ‘sour’ and funk. Melanie left cooking at Little Duck the Picklery to make and sell her ferments during the covid years. She has worked in R&D and as a chef in Germany\, Poland\, New York\, and most recently filmed a television show in Japan about the preservation technique called tsukudani. SUMMARY:Festive Willow Decoration Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Get in the festive spirit with this special edition willow weaving workshop! In this 3 hour workshop you will be shown how to make three different willow Christmas decorations\, all suitable for hanging on a Christmas tree or around your home. \nThese decoration will be made from buff willow rods\, that is willow that has had the bark stripped off the rod leaving the willow a straw like colour. This is a lovely natural material and the workshop will show you how extremely versatile this sustainable material is! \nYou will make three different decorations designs each using different willow weaving techniques. \n\nA simple 5 pointed star\, which enables you to practice bending the willow to create the star shape.\nA Swedish star which involves a wearing technique of threading willow rods over and under each other to create a large attractive star.\nA woven spiral that involves the twisting and folding over of willow rods to form an attractive spiral shape.\n\nAt the end of the workshop you will have a selection of hand made Christmas decorations to take home. \nAll material and tools provided. \nINFORMATION \nTickets\nStandard Price £35\nConcession £28 \nRunning time\n3 hours \nAge Recommendation\nAges 12+ (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult) \nIf viewing on a phone please scroll to the bottom of the page to book.  \nTicket FAQ’sThis workshop will be lead by Cat Stevens \nCat studied sculpture at Edinburgh Art College.
