This week, the repaving of the front area of the upper greenhouse has begun. This means that for a short while, we will only be able to enter the upper greenhouse from the rear entrance which you can access by going past the back of our kitchen. Space will be a little limited, however we hope to start off our seed sowing by sowing chillies, and tomatoes in our heated propagators.  The disruption is going to be worth it! Just imagine we won’t be tripping up any more on loose and uneven paving! We are going to re-use as much as possible of the old paving in the adjacent Learning Yard.

Read all about this and much more in our planning application that we have submitted this week to Lambeth Council for our proposed new learning and social space we wish to create as an extension and adapation of the Upper Greenhouse: ‘Raise the Barn’.  (Lambeth will put the application out for public consultation shortly. )On the subject of The Barn, many thanks to all who contributed selfies to our video we submitted alongside our funding application for the Barn to the GLA’s Good Growth Fund.  We will send you a link soon.

We will be doing quite a lot of DIY in a last push to get these jobs finished off before the growing season and seed sowing starts in earnest. We will be working on improving our kitchen by putting in shelves and units. We will also be working on completing the bees new home by moving the front viewing panels from the old apiary to the new apiary. Once the panels are in place it will be possible to see the bees’ hives clearly and watch the bees as they begin to wake up in the Spring.

Following up issues raised in our last volunteers meeting we aim to create some seating in the woodland.  We will start by establishing two good locations for seating, and these will need some clearing and preparation.

This Saturday February 8th 2pm to 3pm Andy Petch is running his Tai Chi Class on the decking (or lower greenhouse in the event of very poor weather).
