Brand new sessions make use of the site all year long!

At Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses a new indoor facility has been built – the Barn!  This will enable us to run our education sessions no matter what the weather!  The sessions will continue to make the most of our beautiful outdoor setting with the option of extending the sessions for in-depth investigations. Our education sessions are offered Monday-Wednesday.

Our sessions can be tailored for EYFS, KS1 and KS2. All activities are linked to the curriculum, are fully risk assessed and led by our enthusiastic and creative Children and Family Team.

Our set programme of sessions are based on these themes:

  • How does a garden grow? (EYFS, KS1 and KS2)

In this session, children will carry out an investigation of one or more of a plant’s life cycle stages. Why do plants have leaves?  How do flowers turn to fruit? Why do seeds come in so many shapes and sizes? Each season will focus on a different life cycle stage, depending on what can be found on site.

  • The Edible Garden (EYFS, KS1 and KS2)

This session takes a look at the food we can grow in this country.  What does it look like when its growing?  What part of the plant do we eat?  What food can be made from it?  The extended session will include a simple cooking activity and is available for KS1 or KS2 only.

  • Living Things and their Habitats (EYFS, KS1 and KS2)

What animals can be found on site?  What do these animals look for in a home?  This session is an exploration of the various habitats we have on site to find and learn about the animals that live here.  Session includes a minibeast hunt and pond dipping (weather permitting).

  • Humans and the Environment (KS1 and KS2)

This session explores our link with the natural world and is only available as a 2 hour session. Depending on your area of study, these session can carry out an investigation on:

    • Soil – what is it made of and why are worms important?
    • The water cycle – what impact are we having on it and what can we do about it?
    • Climate change – what can plants do for us?

For EYFS, our sessions are:

  • 1 hour, cost £90+VAT
  • Start times are: 9:45, 11:00 and 12:45

For KS1 and KS2, we offer two types of sessions:

  • 1 hour and 15 minutes, starting at 9:45, 11:30 or 12:45.  £90+VAT
  • 2 hours, starting at 9:45 or 12:45, costs £150+VAT
