A Jolly Wassail

Sing, dance and drum your way around our winter orchard, led by our wassail Queen. We are going to “wake up” our sleeping trees and scare away any bad spirits, to make sure that our trees give us a great 2018 harvest. We’ll learn traditional wassail songs from our folk singing Queen and make a big noise, so that we can be sure of plums, apples, quinces and medlars a-plenty at the Greenhouses this year!

So, “Was hal “ to all you gardeners, trees and plants out there and may you have a great 2018.

Dress up warmly, and bring a torch! We’ll also have mulled apple juice and cider ready too to be sure we are all in hearty voice. If you and your family would like to make crowns and noisy shakers for the wassail, join us from 3pm-4pm for our wassail family workshop.

This is a free community event suitable for all ages.  Donations are welcome for refreshments.

Let’s get ready to Wassail!

Join us in the greenhouse to make noisy shakers and wonderful wassail crowns, ready for the Jolly Wassail!

We’ll use recycled and natural materials to make percussion instruments, and craft beautiful decorative crowns to wear.

When everyone is ready, we will follow our wassail Queen in to the orchard. There we will sing and make as much noise as possible, to ‘wake up’ the sleeping trees and scare away any bad spirits. Our wassailing will make sure we have a bountiful harvest in 2018!

This is a free family workshop for children of all ages. Donations accepted. This workshop finishes at 4pm, and will be followed straight away by our Jolly Wassail 4pm-5pm – please join in!

What to bring: warm clothes and torches
