This week in the garden, we will start work on renovating our gate borders, moving some plants to other parts of the site, leaving some and composting others. Whilst plants are dormant, the weather relatively mild and the soil soft but not waterlogged, this is a fine time to be doing this work. We need […]

Join us in the greenhouse to make noisy shakers and wonderful wassail crowns, ready for the Jolly Wassail!
We’ll use recycled and natural materials to make percussion instruments, and craft beautiful decorative crowns to wear.
When everyone is crowned and happy with their home made instruments, we will learn songs from our wonderful wassailing musicians the Appleheads and the Norfolk Broads.
Then we will sing to our fruit trees and make as much noise as possible, to ‘wake up’ the sleeping trees and scare away any bad spirits. Our wassailing will make sure we have a bountiful harvest in 2019!
There will be plenty of tea, mulled cider and apple juice throughout.
This is a workshop for all ages.
What to bring: warm clothes, torches and any noisy instruments you fancy bringing along!
Exit from Brockwell Park via the Lido Gates at the end of the event.
We hope you have a very good Christmas and New Year and enjoy a restful time. The Greenhouses will be open as usual up to and including Sunday 23rd Dec. We will then be closed until Saturday 5th January when we will spring back into action with some NEW YEAR WASSAILING. Do join us on this first Saturday […]
You can eat organic produce from your garden year round if you know the right things to do – and when. Every month in these Sunday morning workshops, you can learn from Cat our community gardener all about how to make your Garden Edible – 12 months of the year and using organic gardening methods.
In this workshop, Cat will teach you how to make hard wood cuttings from fruit bushes such as red and black currants. This is exciting as you will get to know how you can make many new plants from one ‘mother’! We will also be learning how to winter prune grape vines.
We should too be harvesting leeks, parsnips and kale – which will give you inspiration on growing these in 2019.
Stomp along to Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses for our weekly preschool group!
