A Jolly Wassail

Join us in the greenhouse to make noisy shakers and wonderful wassail crowns, ready for the Jolly Wassail!

We’ll use recycled and natural materials to make percussion instruments, and craft beautiful decorative crowns to wear.

When everyone is crowned and happy with their home made instruments, we will learn songs from our wonderful wassailing musicians the Appleheads and the Norfolk Broads.

Then we will sing to our fruit trees and make as much noise as possible, to ‘wake up’ the sleeping trees and scare away any bad spirits. Our wassailing will make sure we have a bountiful harvest in 2019!

There will be plenty of tea, mulled cider and apple juice throughout.

This is a workshop for all ages.

What to bring: warm clothes, torches and any noisy instruments you fancy bringing along!

Exit from Brockwell Park via the Lido Gates at the end of the event.

Squash Roast Up

During Urban Food Fortnight, for this Saturday lunch, we are going to fire up our cob oven and roast the yummy courgettes, marrows and squashes we’ve grown in our gardens. Seasoned with our garlic, onions, tomatoes and herbs and served with some home-baked sourdough bread, it should be pretty delicious.  For pudding, we’ll have grapes grown in our Upper Greenhouse.

You’ll also be able to marvel at our our ornamental Gourds which will be getting bigger and better by the day in our Gorgeous Gourds exhibition in our lower Greenhouse. Check out the swan gourd, the bottle neck gourd and many more!

There are just a few tickets left to buy on the gates today.  Find us in the lower garden by the Cob Oven!
