Saturday Morning Nature Explorers is our regular monthly nature club for children aged 7-12 years and their carers. We meet from 10am-12 noon on the first Saturday of the month when we study a different aspect of the natural world using the resources of our community garden and all the bugs, plants, mammals and pond life it contains.

Sessions normally include a quick chat about the topic, an opportunity to explore the Greenhouses and their gardens on a garden trail or scavenge hunt, a snack break involving a slice of homemade cake and a related craft activity. We ask for a donation of £2 per child to contribute towards materials etc.

Listed below are details of some of the activities we undertook last year to give you a flavour of what we get up to but by far the best way to find out more is to drop in to one of our meetings.

In January 2014 we started the year with a look at hibernation and as the months progressed we have studied garden food webs (including a slightly over-competitive game of food chain tag!), been pond dipping, learned about native healing plants, found out some fascinating facts about bees and other pollinators, undertaken some bird ringing, dissected seeds and mastered the techniques of taking hardwood cuttings.

New members are always welcome. For more details contact or call 07427 685714.

Please note that there will be no Nature Explorers in May 2015 to allow our new education officer some time to find her feet. Watch this space for details of future meetings.
