It’s the Friends of Brockwell Park’s Winter Fair at Brockwell Hall on Sunday December 1st between 11am and 3pm.  BPCG will have a stall there with our wreaths, house plants and stocking fillers on sale. There are plenty of other great stalls run by local community organisations.  So come along!

We need to make some wreaths this week for sale at the Winter Fair. If you fancy getting crafty please do come along and help out this Thursday or Friday.  We’d also love you to bring along any festive bits and bobs like ribbons, colourful string, pine cones, berries, decorative baubles etc. And if you would like to make a wreath to take home yourself, then we have more wreath making workshops the following week on Thursday 5th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th 11am to 3pm. Please book here.

Due to popular demand (!) we also need help potting up more succulents and cactii for sale over the Christmas period.  David has brought some lovely 2nd hand ceramic pots from charity shops for us to use for this so come along and get ‘stuck in’ (avoiding prickles)….It’s great choosing which unique plant for which unique container and you can get some lovely quirky results. Our Better Fridays volunteers are true experts at this!

Dates for your diary: on Thursday 19th December and Sunday 22nd December at 1pm,  all are welcome to our Pot Luck Volunteer Christmas Lunches.  Please bring along food and/or drink to share and enjoy together. We have the microwave and hob to warm things up if needed.

In the garden, we have started work on raising the height of our upper four crop vegetable beds. If you enjoy carpentry, this is a satisfying job. We will be adding an extra board in height to each bed. This will increase the soil’s depth enabling us to grow root crops such as parsnip and carrots better as well as helping the vegetable beds stay moist longer. The deeper the bed the more drought resistant it is.

We have moved the large planter out of the passive greenhouses and now it is time to give the passive greenhouse a good clean. In the coming year it will be turned into a succulent house and will house our succulent collection.

We should be having another delivery of manure this week. When it arrives we can start to refill our compost bays.  Steaming good fun!
