Gig at the Greenhouses: Alice Boyd – Shifting Soundscapes

Loading Events

Alice Boyd presents a live performance inspired by her BBC Radio 4 documentary ‘Shifting Soundscapes’, where she revisited locations legendary field recordist Martyn Stewart, dubbed the David Attenborough of nature sounds, recorded in the 70s. Blending voice, synths and live looping with field recordings gathered across the UK, the show explores how our environments are changing – and what we hear when we take the time to listen.

Moving between song and soundscape, the performance weaves together disappearing and returning sonic textures into an immersive, atmospheric set.

For the second half of the evening, Alice will be joined by Daisy Jean Russell and Jacob Norris, long-time collaborators from her live shows and recordings. This trio set leans into a more acoustic, folk-inspired sound, with rich harmonies and field recordings gently woven through the songs.

About Alice Boyd

Alice Boyd is a South London-based musician, sound artist and audio producer whose work explores our relationship with the natural world through song, field recording and immersive listening.

Blending folk-inspired harmonies with ambient electronics and environmental sound, she creates work that reveals the hidden textures of everyday places – from endangered birdsong and underwater life to urban spaces and sounds lost to time.

Her work spans music, spatial audio installations and broadcast, with features on BBC Radio 3, 4 and 6 Music, and presentations at venues including the Barbican Conservatory, Kings Place, Kew’s Wakehurst and the Eden Project, where she was artist-in-residence.

She is the creator of the BBC Radio 4 documentary Shifting Soundscapes and produces Found Sounds for Ffern’s podcast As the Season Turns, with other recent collaborations including the RSPB, EarthPercent, Knepp Rewilding and TOAST. In 2025-26, she supported Yann Tiersen on his European tour, with a performance combining voice, synths, live looping and field recordings.

We put on our Gigs at the Greenhouses to let people hear brilliant music, enjoy our lovely gardens and to raise money so that the community can benefit from BPCG seven days a week.

Getting to Us

BPCG is in the middle of Brockwell Park, between the tennis courts and the walled gardens. Follow the signs.

Please arrive in groups and be sure to have a torch or use your phone torches. All park gates are open 24/7, but we recommend coming to us via the gate by the Lido.

Walk up the hill from the Lido, turn left at the tennis courts, then turn right and you will see the Greenhouse gates on your right. Click here to see a map of the route

If you are driving to the gig, we recommend parking your car on Dulwich Road or near Dulwich Road.

The park will also be dark when you leave the gig so everyone must leave in groups with torches.

Food & Drink

Delicious home-made hot food, botanical cocktails, local craft beer and organic wine will be on sale.

Book your food with your ticket to avoid disappointment.

Food will be vegetarian, but unfortunately we cannot cater for any other dietary requirements.
