Our Connecting Kids to Nature Project is working with schools that have a very high percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals.  Children from low income households often experience a nature gap – they have limited opportunities to directly interact with nature.  They may not have access to green spaces at home or at school.  Engaging with nature can positively impact a child’s education and well-being. Children from low-income households are often missing out.

This project aims to address this by offering a range of activities for free to target schools.  These include an assembly, in-school activities and visits to our garden as well as staff training to support teachers in bringing nature into the classroom. All kids should have opportunities to engage with nature first-hand so they can improve their understanding of the natural world and enjoy the well-being benefits that nature can provide.

“We have noticed our kids can be apprehensive about engaging with nature. They are nervous and don’t want to get dirty.  They just haven’t learned that nature is something that can be fun to explore!”
