Avant Garden Gig

Loading Events

An early evening feast of music, spoken-word and performance. Acoustic, electronic and improvising musicians, story-tellers, artists and poets present a series of short sets, with freshly made local food and drinks available to pre-order and buy on the day.

PLEASE NOTE THE EARLY START TIME. The gig starts around dusk.

Join us for the last concert in this series. An eclectic mix of song, altered tonalities and improvisation.

Goldsmith´s Improviser Collective
Diverse acoustic and electronic sound-sources.
A group of 8 – 12 masters students who have been developing their improvisational styles for the past 18 months as part of their studies will give Avant Garden a burst of larger-scale group improvisation.

John Telfer: Cymatic Music
Handmade woodwind and percussive instruments.
John is a lifelong musical explorer who has played in many professional musical contexts while developing his own more experimental cymatic musical practice as a personal journey.
John’s Cymatic music eschews the conventional musical scale, replacing it with a note series developed through mathematics. The resultant music is approachable, beautiful, highly meditative and absorbing, using scales that are subtly different from the conventional musical forms. Tuned percussion, stringed and woodwind instruments, all hand made by John to his own designs will create the music.

Kelsey Michael
Voice, keyboards
Kelsey’s music laces her love of 60s/70s classic singer song-writing together with a contemporary art-pop edge. Songs are steeped in natural imagery, taking the listener out into the wilds.
She releases new single Music Of The Waves on Dimple Discs December 1st.
From 1997 – 2003 Kelsey’s band Minnow performed ‘exploratory widescreen pop’ across the London experimental music scene. She is a regular collaborator with Sean O’Hagan, featuring on numerous High Llamas albums.
You will also find her voice on Jocelyn Pook’s soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Eyes wide shut’.

We put on our Gigs at the Greenhouses to let people hear brilliant music, enjoy our lovely gardens and to raise money so that the community can benefit from BPCG seven days a week.

PAY WHAT YOU CAN

We are offering a Pay What You Can Scheme for these workshops to make them accessible to everyone. We know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some, and the Pay What You Can model offers people who can afford to pay a bit more the chance to support others who can’t.

Getting to us

BPCG is in the middle of Brockwell Park, between the tennis courts and the walled gardens. Follow the signs.

Entrance and exit from the Park should be via the Park’s Lido Gates on Dulwich Road, all other gates will be locked. Please arrive in groups and be sure to have a torch or use your phone torches. Walk up the hill from the Lido, turn left at the tennis courts, then turn right and you will see the Greenhouse gates on your right. Click here to see a map of the route

If you are driving to the gig, we recommend parking your car on Dulwich Road or near Dulwich Road.

The park will also be dark when you leave the gig so everyone must leave in groups with torches.

Food & Drink

Delicious home-made hot food, botanical cocktails, local craft beer and organic wine will be on sale.
Book your food with your ticket to avoid disappointment and let us know if you have any allergies.
