Join us for a festive gig with a twist, as the Bango Duo explore the joyful and vibrant melodies of traditional Gypsy Christmas songs and Slovakian carols with their own arrangements for cello and violin. Including songs from the violinists earliest Christmas childhood memories mixed in with his energetic gypsy improvisations.
The session will be laced with gypsy storytelling and an opportunity to learn a traditional song and Christmas sing-a-long near the end.
Marian Bango is a classical violinist influenced by his Slovakian gypsy heritage to create a very unique and special sound. He started his career in the orchestra of the Theatre Romathan, where he performed for over ten years. He has played with numerous orchestras and performed with bands on many stages across Europe. You can see him perform on BBC television, for Holocaust Memorial Day 2020.
Nina Plapp is a Herne Hill cellist and composer who met Marian a decade ago while researching her BBC radio 4 project ‘A cello in the desert’ which traced the musical heritage of gypsy music back to India. They have been playing together ever since. The duo recently performed Nina’s composition at The National Gallery and are currently recording their first duo album.
