Come along and enjoy a day of creativity, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving, to which you can add a modern twist! You will make an elegant willow bowl or basket which you can take home at the end of the day and if you happen to be a rather quick weaver you may even have time to make a little decorative willow sphere.
Willow weaving is a traditional craft once practised in many places where willow trees grow, typically on open flat ground that has a plentiful water supply such as the Somerset Levels.
Willow is a very versatile weaving material from which you can create decorative and useful items such as plant supports, willow sphere planters, garden sculptures, ‘live’ fences, firewood baskets and shopping baskets.
In this workshop you will learn about the various types of willow you can weave with and the differences between living willow and basket makers willow. You will become familiar with tradition tools such as the bodkin and rapping iron.

“As a complete beginner I loved learning about willow weaving in BPCG’s new barn. It was a small friendly group and Cat the tutor was great. We each made a basket and either finished them on the day or took home the materials and knowledge to do so. I was very proud of my slightly wonky one!”
