Mambista events at Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses are a highlight of the summer, often described as “magical” with very good reason. BPCG is a beautiful setting, the music, live and recorded, is ‘broader than Broadway’ and always top class, the food is always wonderful and the events attract crowds ranging from toddlers to the ‘more mature’. We kick off the first Mambista at BPCG of 2023 with a trio featuring virtuoso ‘gypsy jazz’ guitarist Ducato Piotrowski.
Up until 2022 there was a venue in Battersea called Le QueCumBar which was dedicated, 7 nights a week, to the music popularised by genius guitarist, Django Reinhardt – alongside violin virtuoso Stéphane Grappelli – and their Quintette du Hot Club de France. And every Tuesday evening they hosted a jam session where Ducato’s playing always stood out.
Ducato was born in Poland to a Roma family. He started playing guitar at 10, when his father showed him a few chords, which inspired Ducato to watch what other guitarists did and learn from them. He is entirely self-taught and when Ducato discovered, and fell in love with, the playing of Django Reinhardt it was a revelation, having a huge impact on his life.

About Mambista
Mambista has been hosting monthly club nights since 2014 at West Norwood’s Portico Gallery with live music from bands such as Sexteto Café, Yaaba Funk, Balkanatics, Grupo Lokito, Nerija, Krar Collective and Da Lata alongside the patented Mambista mash-up on the decks, courtesy of founder, DJ Gerry Lyseight (co-founder of Brixton’s legendary Mambo Inn, Mango Landin’, ex-presenter of Planet Mambo on GLR/BBC London)
We put on our Gigs at the Greenhouses to let people hear brilliant music, enjoy our lovely gardens and to raise money so that the community can benefit from BPCG seven days a week.
Getting to us
BPCG is in the middle of Brockwell Park, between the tennis courts and the walled gardens. Follow the signs.
If you are driving to the gig, we recommend parking your car on Dulwich Road or near Dulwich Road.
Entrance and exit from the Park should be via the Park’s Lido Gates on Dulwich Road.
The park will be dark when you leave the gig so everyone must leave in groups with torches.
Food & Drink
Delicious home-made hot food, botanical cocktails, local craft beer and organic wine will be on sale.
