New garden volunteers are always welcome – come and join us!
We grow herbs, dye plants, medicinal plants, indoor and outdoor vegetables and fruits and lots of flowers – whatever your plant passion, you’re sure to find it here. You’ll also find a lovely welcoming bunch of people to share the joys of gardening with, and plenty of cups of tea too!
At any time of the year, there are important tasks to do in the garden and greenhouses. So we always need volunteer help! All year round, we create new plants from seeds, from cuttings and from division. We also compost all our garden waste, turning and sieving it and using it to condition our beds. In the warmer months, it’s mostly propagating, weeding, harvesting and selling plants which keeps us busy. In the colder months, we prepare planting plans, clean down the greenhouses, prune trees and bushes, mend paths and write interesting signage for our visitors. We also make Christmas wreaths and the odd pickle and jam.
You can find out a bit more about us in this lovely little film by Theo Wallis.
Volunteering sessions are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10-5pm (BST) and 10-4pm (BWT).

More schools and families volunteers required!
We need more volunteers to help us in our expanding programme of school visits and family activities. If you enjoy working with children or aspire to work in the fields of education and play, becoming one of our schools and families volunteers could be the ideal volunteering opportunity for you. We are particularly looking for daytime volunteers Monday-Wednesday but we also run some Saturday workshops.
