Natural Dyeing Workshop: How to dye textiles with food waste

Loading Events

Learn how to dye textiles using only natural materials at home.

There is a lot to explore, from how to prepare, mordant and extract colour from food waste, to learning how to dye using sustainable techniques that have been around for centuries.

What you will learn, you can then use to dye your yarn, fabric, clothing or just to have a fun evening at home with the family and get creative.

Bring along with you:

Something to dye at the workshop! This can include some yarn, small piece of fabric, a pair of socks, baby clothing etc. Please bring only one item though!

  • First make sure is either 100% cotton, linen, wool, silk or hemp.
  • Secondly that is white, beige or very lightly coloured.
  • Finally that it doesn’t weigh more than 100-150g dry.

And collect and bring in any dry onion peels – red or yellow or both!

Workshop Leader

My name is Eleni and I am a self-taught natural dyer living in Herne Hill, SE. I like to source my materials mindfully from our urban nature and local businesses and create one of a kind naturally dyed clothing and home wear.

If you are unsure about anything regarding the workshop or what can you bring with you to dye, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via DM or email, prior to the workshop.

Pay What You Can

We are offering a Pay What You Can Scheme for these workshops to make them accessible to everyone. We know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some, and this Pay What You Can model offers people who can afford to pay a bit more the chance to support others who can’t.
